8

Did your service users previously live in an institution or other large establishment?

yes

What happened in your service/project?

  • We were building a facility in an area where new houses were already built.
  • The owners feared that the value of their houses would go down because of our activities (noise, traffic, etc.)
  • There was a misunderstanding concerning the purpose of the facility. Neighbours already gathered their own information.
  • The consequence was, that we had to look out for another spot in the same town, although the City Council held a hearing to solve the problem and although we had the local press on our side.

What advice would you give to other providers setting up a similar service?

Provide information as correct and as soon as possible. By all means.
