Improving the quality of services

Fény Felé Alapítvány (Towards the Light Foundation)

 

The Foundation was set up in 1993 with the aim of improving the living conditions of the people with disabilities living in the residential institution of the municipality of Debrecen (Eastern-Hungary). Originally it supported investment in infrastructure and equipment to improve quality of service. The foundation has been active in fund-raising – donations and projects – for the past 10 years and also organised various events and training programs for people with disabilities, parents and professionals. 

Aims

Provide community-based services for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities Establish good partnership with governmental and non-governmental organizations to improve quality of services and disseminate innovative and good practices in care. 

Services offered

Prevention and rehabilitation Social and family counselling Research Education, personal development Cultural activities Advocacy Employment The foundation has established good cooperation and partnership with a number of national and international organisations active in the same field. We are one of the founding members of SOFT International and ETA, a Hungarian umbrella organization of service providers for people with intellectual disability. 

Good practice

The first community-based setting of the foundation was opened in 1999 for young people with multiple disabilities who grow up in the large institution or in other form of state care. The second setting was opened in 2001. Both setting provide individual support and development for their residents. Special emphasis is put on training, vocational training and finding employment opportunities.
